Kyosho Optima Turbo NOT Coming SOON

NOT Coming  very SOON...

Kyosho Optima Turbo

25/9/2025

Hello fellow RC car enthusiasts, I hope you are all well.

I know I have been promising some new content over the last many, many months but at last I have bought a new project.

I have bought a second hand Kyosho Optima Turbo re-release from ebay. The turbo has been well used and is fitted with a full set of electronics including a motor, receiver and steering servo. I have just won the auction and paid for the car. I am expecting delivery of the buggy anywhere from the 27th September up until 29th September 2025.

As I said, the buggy looks from the pictures to have been well used and does have scratches and the gold anodising also has some damage. However, my plan is to strip the buggy back to parts and rebuild it with new parts where I can.

As you can see, it will need a new body shell as I want to finish it in box art.

It does come with some spare parts too.

I know it's not what I was saying in my previous posts but this car came up at the right price and it had a full set of electrics in it.
I have actually bought this as a Christmas Present for myself, and yes it is a little early for Christmas but I couldn't miss the opportunity of buying an Optima Turbo.

I'm hoping to restore it to brand new and for it to join my other cars on display. Judging by the pictures that were on ebay, a lot of the gold anodising has been removed and scratched which means those parts will need replacing. The gold anodised parts are very expensive so I'll have to replace them over time. The parts are way too expensive to replace all in one go.

Also when I was looking at the pictures, the front wheels seem to be out of line with the front bumper so I hope it's just the bumper is bent and not the whole chassis. The thing is, if the whole chassis is bent, it will be super expensive to repair. A full alloy set is around £100. Also the body shell has a lot of damage and it is not painted to a great standard and the bodyshell is another £50. At this rate, I should have bought a brand new buggy as it would have been cheaper. Still, these are things I can do over time and there is no rush.

I have just purchased a full gold anodised alloy chassis set.

As well as the alloy onder cover

I have now spent a total of £330 and I still need to order a body shell. This is an expensive project already but it will look brand new when I'm finished.

I also need to find a new place to work on my beloved buggies but, I have a plan...

As soon as the car arrives and the parts, I will update the post and keep you up to date.

Thank you for reading and your kind patience.

Take care.

Sad news...

I received the buggy this morning and the buggy is in bad shape so I have requested to return the buggy to the seller.

As you can see the front shock tower is bent and has pushed the front arm and wheel backwards. Not good.

You can see from the above picture that the arm is not parallel with the chassis.

The shock absorbers are all scratched and the car is just in a sorry state of affairs. It's an absolute shame because I had already spent £120 on it.
There's a lesson to be learned here, don't buy second hand buggies from ebay unless the seller shows better pictures...I've learned my lesson the hard way :(
Now I have to wait for the seller to respond...
