"Stabilizer Kit" 


Hello RC enthusiasts from around the World, I hope you are all well.

As the title suggests, this post is all about the fitting of the stabilizer kit  (also known as an anti roll bar kit). The anti-roll bar kit I will be fitting is a genuine Kyosho kit part number "OTW135B" and it contains both the front and rear anti roll bars and all the components required to fit the stabilizer kit. 

Let me begin...


First of all I picked out my Optima Mid ready for the fitting of the stabilizer kit!


Next I removed the bodyshell and rear wing!


Now it was time to remove the wheels.


In the picture above you can see the Mid without it's wheels.


Next it was time to remove the shock absorbers. I'm not sure that it is optional to leave the shock absorbers fitted but I thought it was a good idea as it will give me extra room to work with.


With the shock absorbers and everything else removed, I moved into an area with better lighting.


As you can see in the picture above, the stabilizer kit is still in it's bag and needs removing.


As you can see, this room has a little better lighting for me to work with.


After opening the bag, the first thing I removed was the fitting instructions. As you can see they are quite detailed so I spent a few minutes familiarising myself with the pars and the Optima Mid.

After looking at the instructions, I decided to start with the front anti-roll bar first.


Following the instructions, I removed the front bumper.


With the front bumper removed, this gave me access to the front bulk head which needs to be unbolted and pulled forward. This means loosening the two bolts and removing the "C" clips.


The "C" clips are really small so I used the pointed end of a compass to prise out the clips.


With the bulkhead loose I inserted the front anti-roll bar, inserted the two brass balls and then tightened the bolts and reattached the "C" clips. It was quite an operation holding everything together and tightening the bolts but I somehow managed.

With the front stabilizer bar fitted, it was time to focus my energies on the rear anti roll bar.


First of all I removed the rear wing mount.


With the wing mount removed, I now had access to the rear bulkhead of the car.


With the rear wing mount removed, I could unbolt the rear top arm from the buggy as can be seen above. This gives better access to the rear of the plate as two of the rear anti-roll bar fixing need to be fitted.


Once the fixing were bolted on, I could replace the rear top arm mounting as can be seen above.


With the rear anti-roll bar fitted, I followed the instructions and fitted the rest of the ball pivots as you can see in the picture above. With the ball pivots in place, I was then able to fit the first "drop link" as you can also see in the picture above on the left.


With the second and final "drop link" fitted, the anti-roll bar kit was now installed.


Finally I replaced the rear wing holder and with that the kit installation was complete.


With the front bumper refitted it was now time to refit everything else.


First of all I refitted the shock absorbers, as can be seen above.


I next refitted the wheels.


Then last but not least I refitted the rear wing and bodyshell.


With everything back on the car, the stabilizer kit install was complete. 

The install took me a couple of hours to complete and I would advise anyone attempting this to fit it when the buggy is being assembled as the retro fitting took a long time.
